VARs - Value Added Resellers

A VAR is a company that takes an existing product, and adds additional value. This "value-ad" could be in the form of knowledge, customization, or hardware integration.

A network of VARs can be very valuable to a developer. VARs often focus on and dominate niche markets. VARs often sell into a niche and provide products, services or customizations that are specific to that niche. VARs can increase product exposure in their niche and extend a developer's customer base. VARs will often look for ways to add value to software by integrating it with other hardware or software.

If your software would be well served by a VAR network be sure to cultivate VAR relationships. Remember to provide VARs reseller discounts and perhaps referrals if you receive specific customer queries. The more a VAR can earn the harder they will work to sell your products.
