Description by publisher
Handle long filenames in DOS programs: Old DOS programs can be very useful. However, old DOS programs cannot handle the long filenames used in modern Windows environments. You can handle the renaming problem manually, but there are better ways. This is the reason for the creation of Handle. You can enter information in Handle's dialog window about the program you want to use and the commands you want to send, and you can use wildcards to specify the files you want to pass to it. Handle will call your program with the short filenames (and the long filenames as well if you want to use them as input for your program), and then rename your program's output back to the long filenames. Handle can also translate a long directory name and send the corresponding short name to your program, and while your program executes, Handle can collect information that your program writes to a report, error or status file.
