I have a freeware application, that is doing quite will in terms of download counts. Because there seems to be a need for the product, I have considered making a commercial version additional features. Any advice on making the transition from freeware to paid software?
When people get something for free their expectation is usually lower than when they spend money. You will want to polish and improve the software for the commercial market. If you are struggling with how to enhance the software let your freeware users tell you what features they would like to see added.
If you currently have a support forum add a sub-forum for Feature Requests. Encourage existing users to let you know what kind of enhancements they are interested in. Use your existing freeware base of users to find beta testers and make the transition to commercial software easier.
