I received a note to give away our software on a CD Cover. Should I give away an old version of our software for free?

This can be a great way to gain brand recognition and generate a user base. Often magazines will include older software versions on a CD Cover. If you do participate in a free giveaway try to collect email addresses or contact information on the customers who take advantage of the offer. This way you can possibly upsell to them in the future and keep them informed about new releases.
