How should I determine the pricing for my new application?

Software pricing can be very tricky. In order to make the most revenue, you will want to maximize the number of customers at the highest possible price. Sounds simple? Not necessarily. With a larger customer base, you might see an increase in support costs. The price needs to be high enough to profit, but not so large that the customers do not purchase.

The best place to start is to evaluate the market. Take a look at the pricing structure of competing applications, consider the development time involved (how complicated is the application), how large is the potential market, and how does the product compare to similar applications.

Consider conducting some tests using A/B split testing, to determine the maximum price the product demand will support.

Additional suggestions about pricing software can be found in the How to Price Software article.
